Aerial view of St. Nicholas Church

Part of the footage of Aaron Green’s video on YouTube, which shows aerial views of St. Nicholas Church.

Wouldn’t you just love a pair of wings?

I’ve photographed St. Nicholas Church, Laindon with Dunton from many angles, both inside and out. I’ve been up on the scaffolding which was erected inside the church when the ceiling was replaced a few years ago, which is a vantage point that hasn’t been enjoyed by very many people over the years. But I’ve never been lucky enough to take photos from above the roof of the church.

One person who has taken photos of the top of our church is Aaron Green, who sent his camera up on a DJI Phantom quadcopter and shot some magnificent video of the church and Church Hill. The photo to the left is a screenshot from the footage. Aaron put his video on YouTube and contacted us at church, to tell us about it. Part of the footage shows the damage caused by the woodpeckers, who make holes in the bell tower and when Aaron realised we are raising money to do something about this, he sent his quadcopter and camera up again to specifically take footage of the bell tower, which you can see here and even turned it into an appeal-video for our fund raising efforts.

Just looking at that photo on the left makes me yearn for wings! How wonderful to soar in the early morning sunlight and glide high above the hustle and bustle! And I might just give a few woodpeckers a stern talking to!

There are lots of schemes to make money for our church – a table top sale is planned for August and there will be other events in the future. One such effort is my ebook, ‘Daffodil and the Thin Place’, which is on sale here , all profits will go to the fund which will eventually fix the roof, prevent the woodpeckers from doing more damage and set us on the way to establishing a heritage centre in the annexe on the western end of the church – the place where most of the events in ‘Daffodil and the Thin Place’ were set. It’s only £1.81 from Amazon, so please grab a copy!
