Character vs Personality

Mask – The Latin word ‘persona’, meaning ‘mask’, can be found in our word ‘personality’

Before yesterday, I don’t think I’d really taken the time to distinguish between character and personality but at Bible Study yesterday morning, we looked at a little of what Paul wrote in his second letter to the Corinthians. We decided personality is what you show other people but character is what’s deep inside and which often comes to the fore when life is hard and you’re experiencing problems. So, you can have bags of personality but not necessarily have good character! Interestingly, the root of personality is from persona, the Latin for mask.

It’s tempting to want to shine and be thought of as a wonderful personality but ultimately, strength of character is what counts.

In my book ‘Daffodil and the Thin Place’, Daffodil wouldn’t consider she has lots of personality, in fact she’s rather insecure and lacking in confidence but as her story unfolds, she shows she has character and in the end, she becomes quite a personality! Check out how here
