Reg’s Dlog (Well, what else would you call a dog’s blog?)

I must admit, I nodded off for a while during the journey, but the Old Girl assured me that on Friday, we passed through five European countries. I thought she was joking, after all, we were only travelling for about five hours but she told me that we’d been in England, France, Belgium, Holland and Germany. Well, we certainly started off in England and ended up in Germany, so she must be right. Anyway, I can’t wait to tell you about my trip!

The Old Ones took me out to Heiligenhaus, one of the twin towns of Basildon to see the opening of the World War One exhibition that had been in Meaux. It had been in France for a month and was then transferred to Germany last week. The Old Ones were very surprised because they were told they’d also been invited to a civic event hosted by the mayor of Heiligenhaus on Friday evening, with lots of dignitaries, business people and a robot. It was all quite exciting.

I liked the Wald Hotel where we stayed. It was very comfortable. And how about this? It had the usual pencil and notepaper but there was also a roll of Sellotape! How fancy! I wished I’d packed something that needed to be stuck.

The mayor of Heiligenhaus also opened the World War One exhibition. He said that whereas in Britain, we remember with poppies, in Germany, they remember with white roses. He gave one to each of the people from Basildon and to each of the members of the folk band, Fricklesome, who played at the World War One Christmas Concert in Basildon last Christmas. Okay, so the mayor didn’t actually give me a rose but if he’d known I’d been going, I’m sure he would have. So, I posed with the Old Girl’s rose. Anyway, then Fricklesome played and it was so beautiful, even I had tears in my eyes – and dogs aren’t usually known to get soppy.

In the evening, we went to a bar in a museum. Yes, really. We saw a room that was just like a very old shop and one that was like an old school room. We couldn’t look round the whole museum because one of the rooms was being used for a singalong led by someone who looked like a cross between Coco the clown and Bob Dylan. Thankfully, they didn’t insist we joined in.

On Sunday, we went for breakfast and I caught up with Northy, the parrot, who I first met in Meaux. He was sulking. It was all to do with the F-word. The previous day during the exhibition, he told me he’d been FORGOTTEN. He’d been left upstairs and missed the whole exhibition, so he was another F-word. FURIOUS. And he was still very grumpy.

But a cup of coffee and a roll seemed to bring him round from his sulk, in fact, he was in such good spirits, he suddenly grabbed me and nearly dropped me in the cup. It’s really hard to read Northy, he’s a bit unpredictable but he finally put me down and we watched the snow through the window.

Anyway, after a while, we started to get on so well, he decided to come home in our car and stayed with us for a few days. I’ll let you know what we got up to last Tuesday, next time I post on my dlog.

In order to make the most of where Northy and I were on Tuesday, you will need to have read the Old Girl’s ebook ‘Daffodil and the Thin Place’ and if you haven’t finished reading it, hopefully, you’ve got to the bit where the Voice guides Daffodil to the Veil. If you haven’t got your copy yet, there’s still time. Click here to go to the Muse It Up Publishing website or go to your favourite ebook retailer. Trust me, it will bring things to life.
