The Old Girl has had another flash fiction piece published on the CafeLit site, which you can see here.  It’s called The Betrayal and is a story told in one hundred words.

Short but sweet.

And I reckon it can’t be that hard to write. I’ve been learning to read and write and I’m sure I know a hundred words, so I might have a go.

In the meantime, here’s one that she entered in a flash fiction competition run by Muse It Up Publishing last March (click here).

It didn’t win but if you click on the link to the Muse It Up site and look on the left, further down the web page, you can see links to the other entries and see which is your favourite. Of course, a  flash fiction story doesn’t have to contain exactly one hundred words but that’s what the Old Girl always tries to do.

Here’s the story she entered:

Sunset Over the Loch
by
Dawn Knox
They reached their old meeting place by the loch at dusk.

“It’s been a while,” he said

“Thirty years, seven months and ten days,” she said.

“You counted?”

“It passed the time while I waited for you.”

“I’m sorry, I meant to come back, I really did…”

She sighed.

“But I’m back now and…” he swallowed nervously, “I hoped we’d rekindle…things.”

“I’ve waited so long for this.”

“You forgive me, darling? We can start again?”

“No,” she said, “I was waiting for this,” and placing her hand on his back, she pushed him into the cold waters of the loch.

If you want to read anything else the Old Girl has written, she has a whole ebook which is considerably more than one hundred words and is called ‘Daffodil and the Thin Place’. You can find it here on the Muse It Up website. #MuseItUp #DaffodilAndTheThinPlace
