Having read Reg’s diatribe against sand a few days ago, I suddenly remembered these photos.

Guess where they were taken? On a beach, obviously. But where? Somewhere on the coast?

No, these photos were taken on the South Bank, London. It’s hard to believe that there is such clean sand along the River Thames, in the middle of London.

The South Bank is one of my favourite places in London to take photographs. I love the variety of subjects! It always seems so incongruous to see business people and tourists milling about on the banks but people down on the ‘beach’ next to the water, having fun. Another place I love along the South Bank is the Skateboard and Bike Park, where you can always get some great shots of youngsters doing stunts.

It’s great to be in easy travelling distance of London. From St. Nicholas Church, Laindon with Dunton, on a clear day, you can see London in the distance. The two things that are recognisable are Canary Wharf and now, the Shard, which can both be seen when they glint in the sun. If you’re ever in the area of Basildon, don’t forget to visit St. Nicholas Church, which must be one of Essex’s best kept secrets!
