Dragonfly

Identify me!

Have you ever spotted an animal and wondered what it was, or what it was called? If you’ve got a camera with you, wonder no more! There is a great website which has been set up by the Open University called iSpot (click here to go to iSpot) to help in identifying animals and plants. Submit your photo and the iSpot community will come to your aid. So far, I’ve posted three photos – one of a flower and two of animals and people have commented and identified them for me.

I’ve only posted photos of animals that I’ve found near my house but I have photos of animals I’ve photographed in Indonesia and I will post them and ask if anyone can identify them, such as the dragonfly in the photograph.

There are projects to get involved in, such as the following: Treezilla, the Monster Map of Trees – We’re making a map of Britain’s trees and their ecosystem benefits. You can help by adding trees in your area, and getting involved with a range of citizen science tree projects. And also quizzes.

So, if you are puzzled by a plant or animal, or even if you are an expert and could add your identification skills to the community, why not have a look at the iSpot website.

One thing that Daffodil noticed when she slipped back to the Victorian times was the increased numbers of birds and the loudness of their birdsong compared to her twenty-first century life. If you’d like to read about an insect and a mollusc which unknowingly assisted Daffodil, you can find the ebook ‘Daffodil and the Thin Place’ here on the Muse It Up Publishing website or from any major ebook seller. The price is approximately £1.80 and all profits will go towards renovating and maintaining the ancient building of St. Nicholas Church, Laindon with Dunton where the story takes place. #MuseItUp #DaffodilAndTheThinPlace
