Pierced and Colourful Lady in London

Pierced and Colourful Lady in London

Friends who know me now, would probably be amazed to hear that I had sung a song in public.

Although, I believe it was the first and last time I performed a solo – ever.

I was, however, only five years old at the time but as it was my first day at school, I think it was fairly brave. When my mum came to pick me up at lunch time, the teacher looked out at the sea of anxious faces and called out that she wanted to speak to Mrs. Kentish. With a sinking heart, my mum wondered what I could possibly have done in the few hours I had spent at school. She was very surprised to learn I’d volunteered to sing a song and the teacher wanted to know where she could get the music. If it wasn’t for the fact that I actually remember singing the song, I’d find it hard to believe that I stood up in front of a class of children and a teacher who I’d never met before, and sang.

And the song I sang, was

“Little bird, I have heard what a merry song you sing,
Flying high in the sky on your tiny wing,
Jesus’ little ones are we
And he loves us, you and me,
As we share in his care,
We must happy be.”

Okay, fair enough, it isn’t very long although it may have had other verses, I really can’t remember. But I sincerely hope not.

I must admit, although I can remember the tune,  I had to look it up on the Internet because I couldn’t remember the last two lines and amazingly, I found it!

Nowadays, there’s no way you’d get me to sing, other than in a large group. You don’t get me making a spectacle of myself at all. I’ve managed to keep quite a low profile since my solo, but I really envy people who are less inhibited than me. I took the photo of the lady with the many adornments in London (with her consent, of course!) and although I probably wouldn’t go that far, I loved the way she seemed to enjoy being looked at. Her outfit, hair, piercings and accessories were obviously well thought out, to draw maximum attention. Go Lady, I say!

Do you like to be looked at or do you, like me, keep a low profile?

In my ebook ‘Daffodil and the Thin Place’, Daffodil definitely likes to keep a low profile. She goes out of her way to blend in, as many teenagers do. It’s hard not to stand out though, when you find yourself in another period of time, like Daffodil. If you want to find out how she coped, you can purchase the ebook ‘Daffodil and the Thin Place’ here on the Muse It Up Publishing website and from all major ebook sellers. All profits from the sales of the ebook go towards the renovation and upkeep of St. Nicholas Church, Laindon with Dunton, Essex, where the story takes place. #MuseItUp #DaffodilAndTheThinPlace.
