Reg’s Dlog (Well, what else would you call a dog’s blog?)
Having visited a lot of old stuff on Menorca (yes, stuff even older than the Old ‘Uns), we decided to do something different. So we went to the zoo. The Old Boy and Young ‘Un were rather skeptical about the zoo and expected to merely find a few chickens and a goat. But in fact, they had some great animals and we had a good time.
There were goats and there were chickens but as you can see from the photo, they weren’t together. I must admit, I’d never have thought to combine kangaroos and chickens in the same enclosure but what would I know? Anyway, here are a few of my favourite animals. Firstly, there are a couple of birds. When you’re a small dog, large birds like that are a bit scary, especially the owl which had a rather penetrating stare. But I supposed you can’t blame him (or her) for checking us out. The little fellow in the photo beneath the birds was very curious about us. I think he’s a marmoset. He was finding it hard to work out what I was. I’m not sure he ever worked it out. But you have to appreciate his flexibility. I can’t turn my head like that without falling over.
Anyway, to carry on with the tour of the zoo. The Old Boy tried to make friends with a lemur but it wasn’t really interested, as you can see. But if people kept wandering through my home, chatting and pointing cameras at me, I might be as fed up as the lemur looks.
I must admit, I’d never really thought tortoises and turtles had much character. Although the Old Girl once told me about the Old Boy’s tortoise, Crispy, who relentlessly pursued her when she went in the garden. It didn’t matter where she went, it slowly crept up on her, creeping her out. But there was one particular turtle in the zoo, which had bags of character. It struck a pose and remained like that for some time. We wondered if it was doing Yoga or Pilates. Meanwhile, the other turtles seemed to make pyramids in the centre of the pond.
And the theme of climbing on backs was also seen in the tortoises, where one small chap caught a ride on a larger model. Although, I think the big chap gave him a bit of a hard stare.
Well, there’s no room to put up photos of all the animals we saw so here’s one last one. I like it because it looks like one of the monkeys is tucking into his bit of fruit and the other is spitting his out in disgust. I also liked the hair do of the one on the left. I may do something similar with my hair.
The last time, I told you about the book I was writing. It’s set in Menorca and the protagonist is a handsome and charming dog called Rog. He visits a Talaiotic burial site. Since dlogging this, I’ve had a bit of inspiration and in the next part of the story, suave and debonair Rog also visits a zoo. What d’you think so far?
Anyway, continuing with the subject of animals, I have to say, there aren’t many in the Old Girl’s ebook ‘Daffodil and the Thin Place’ although there is a one-eyed dog called Nelson. And a beetle puts in a brief appearance. If you want to find out more about Nelson (or the beetle), ‘Daffodil and the Thin Place’ is now out in paperback from Amazon, available here. You can still find the ebook ‘Daffodil and the Thin Place’ here on the Muse It Up Publishing website or from your favourite email retailer. Heck, you could even buy both.
Until next time…
