Reg’s Dlog.

Well, it’s finally Christmas Eve and the Old ‘Uns seem to be on track. The Old Boy has finished decorating the hall and the Old Girl has done a lot of the cooking ready for our friends to come round later today for dinner. For a joke, I asked the Old Boy if he’d decked the hall with boughs of holly but he hasn’t got much of a sense of humour about decorating and threatened to deck me.

So I went into the kitchen and helped the Old Girl with the butternut squash, lemon and thyme soup although I’m not vouching for the taste. It’s not my sort of thing at all. Give me a bowl of meat any day. And something I wasn’t too happy about was the foliage that went into it. Leaves are all very well in their place – on trees and bushes – but not in food. The Old Girl said you can’t have butternut squash, lemon and thyme soup without the thyme but I rather think you can. After all, she put two bay leaves in and I bet you can’t taste them and it isn’t called butternut squash, lemon, thyme and two bay leaves soup. Although it was funny when she panicked because she could only find one just before she liquidised it. She finally found the second one and when she wasn’t looking, I sucked it, to see what it tasted of. And do you know what? It didn’t taste of anything. So, I ask you, what is the point of a bay leaf? Please let me know if you think there is a point to adding it to food. What is it actually supposed to do?

Anyway, after the panic of the lost bay leaf, we nearly had a liquidising incident. The liquidiser comes in three bits, the bit at the bottom with the blade, the glass goblet and the lid. The Old Girl nearly undid the goblet from the bottom bit which would have resulted in soup all over the place but she managed to screw it back just in time. I was slightly disappointed as it would have been a laugh. Well, it would have served the Old Girl right really. Two days ago, she was given a signed copy of the CD of Christmas music by the German folk band who played at ‘The Sons of Three Countries Remembered’. And she played it over and over yesterday. I have to say, it was really good. Check out Fricklesome Amsel here on YouTube. It was really Christmassy but the Old Girl kept getting distracted – hence the near bath in soup.

Anyway, I’ve found the hidden Christmas presents pile and I found my pressie. It’s rather squashy and I can’t guess what it is but I’m looking forward to that tomorrow morning. The Christmas bouncers that the Old Girl put near the pile to keep me out let me have a rummage but wouldn’t let me peep inside the parcel. They did, however, dance for me and it was just like Strictly Come Christmas. They are both great movers and come with their own tunes. The Old Girl put their batteries in yesterday and she can’t help squeezing the buttons to set them off when she walks by. They’re nowhere near as tuneful as Fricklesome Amsel but they throw some great shapes on the dance floor.

Anyway, I hope your Christmas plans are going well. Don’t forget, if you need a last minute pressie, don’t forget the Old Girl’s ebook ‘Daffodil and the Thin Place’. You can get it from any good ebook retailer and from the Muse It Up Publishing website here, if you prefer.
