Daffodil and the Thin Place 300dpiThe story ‘Daffodil and the Thin Place’ is written from the view point of thirteen year old Daffodil, who sees the people of Puckle’s School with 21st century eyes. Just for fun, I thought I’d consider the thought of some of the secondary characters on ‘D-Day’, the day Daffodil arrived in their lives. Today, it’s David Brown, one of the scholars.
“There’s something very strange about the new girl. I can’t understand why she’s come to a charity school because she doesn’t seem poor to me. If her parents can afford to dress her up in such a strange outfit, I think they must have more money than sense. She carried a bag across her body and I saw her slip what looked like a gold bracelet from her wrist, into it, as if she wanted to hide it. The other odd thing about her was her boots. They did up with what she told Matthew was some kind of foreign boot fastening but I’ve never seen anything like it. I bet they cost a fortune. No, there’s something really odd about her. Matthew and I told her about our friend’s accident and she assumed it had been a deliberate attack. Whatever gave her that idea? And the morning after she arrived, things started going missing from the church, which made Mr. Hornsby furious. Still, she seems pleasant enough I suppose – for a girl. And if I had to choose between Daffodil and Josiah Clement, it would be Daffodil every time. No one trusts Josiah. No one likes him. And not surprising as he is nasty to all the scholars. Well, I suppose life is going to be interesting with Daffodil around.”
If you’d like to find out for yourself what happens in ‘Daffodil and the Thin Place’, click here to go to the Muse It Up Publishing website. The price is approximately £1.80 and all profits will go towards renovating and maintaining the ancient building of St. Nicholas Church, Laindon with Dunton where the story takes place. #MuseItUp #DaffodilAndTheThinPlace
